Week 10, Weigh In

Weight: 219.8 lbs (-25.2 pounds total)
Waist: 38 in (-7 inches total)
Hips: 45 in (-5.5 inches total)

I'm HALFWAY TO MY 50 POUND goal!!!!!

No loss in the hips and waist this week, been stalled out in that department but I'm still losing weight so I'm a happy camper.  Honestly, I'd rather lose the weight because I'm having fit issues with almost ALL of my colthes.  OH WHAT PROBLEMS I HAVE!  Lol.

This week gets a SMILEY!

Day 69, Day 70

Friday ended up being a great day.  I was at school from 7:45 until 5:00 then we made the 2 hour trek to Stomp, an hour and 45 min for the show and the 2 hour trek back.  I got home late but it was SOOOO worth it.

I did really well planning out my food and the only thing I didn't count on was the chocolate craving after dinner.  It probably didn't help that all the kids were walking around with shakes and ice cream cones.  I gave in and bought a Hershey's Almond bar and that put me about 100 calories over my goal but still had a B+ for my nutrition grade.

The show was AWESOME and this was probably the smoothest band trip I've done!

I also ended up getting in my 30 minutes of exercise by running 5 laps around the halls with the kids, walking another mile around the school with *J* and then climbing the 100 steps from the lobby to the balcony.  Not to mention the 5 minute walk from the bus to the PAC with a load of excited kiddos.  I was really glad I found ways to get in the activity and not just say "no time tonight!"

Yesterday was still a great day, just in different ways.  I got up around 10:30 (thought admittedly I wanted to sleep later than that!) and sat around for a bit just waking up.  I heated up half of the last two servings of my tomato soup and then had to run to the store for the other components of my lunch.

After I ate I ran to the gym and did my 50 minute weight circuit and then met up with *J* for some racquetball.  We didn't play very long (about a half hour) because my chest was feeling tight and congested AND about half of our students showed up for a birthday party at the Y.  AWKWARD.

Anyway, I came home showered and changed, had my snack and headed back up to school.  Last night's trip was as equally uneventful (thank god) and the kids REALLY enjoyed the show.  Mom also met up with us to see the show and she thought it was Amazing too!  By the time I got home last night my chest was really congested and I was up for a LONG time listening to this audio book I downloaded to run to.  I ended up finishing it today...  So much for running.  OH WELL!

Day 68

Today was a pretty rough day at school but turned out to be a pretty good evening!

*J* and I did the 30 minute run tonight and SUCCEEDED!  I didn't track my running distance but with the 5 minute warm up and cool down I went 2.79 miles!  We've officially finished the 8 week program.  We're not quite to a 5K yet, but we've got a plan for that!

I was also trying to find a solution for my McDonald's dilemma.  You see, I'm taking a bunch of my kids to see STOMP and the only place to eat efficiently on the way is..  Dun DUn DUH!  McDonald's.

Now, I haven't had Fast Food since I started this diet.  That's 68 days with no fast food.  HOLY COW, that's a long time!  I wanted to be proactive though so I didn't get there and go nuts so I got on Calorie Count and planned what I'd eat ahead of time and GUESS WHAT!  I can have my normal breakfast, my normal lunch, a Southern Style Chicken Sandwich combo with fries and an iced tea for dinner, my normal kiwi snack AND another fiber antioxidant bar for the road.  AND I'M STILL UNDER MY CALORIE GOAL!  I'm really glad that I can eat pretty regularly and still stay on track.  I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do for exercise tomorrow, but I'll figure something out.

I'm contemplating taking all the kids that are going to be amped up and excited about STOMP in my room tomorrow on a run around the school.  It'll burn some of their energy, get me some running in AND they'll get to run in the school with permission.  I don't want to get all sweaty though, so we'll see if we really do this one.

Day 67

Not too much to report on today.  I didn't seriously injure myself today...  I don't think!

School was school and I came home and made some delicious chicken and mashed tatoes.  We went ahead and went to the gym tonight but I took it fairly easy.  I did the arms and abs part of my weight circuit and then we did 30 minutes on the bike.  I was happy the bike didn't aggravate my knee.  It's still been bothering me a bit today.

We also went down and played a little racquetball but I elected to stop when my finger started to swell a bit.  I'm trying to be smart and not let my injuries get the best of me!

Day 66

Or...  Why getting healthy is killing me....

1. Exercise Induced Asthma
2. Tonsil Stones
3. Road rash from nose dives on the racquetball court.
4. Getting hit in the face by racquetballs.
5. Racquetballs knocking my glasses off my face.
6. Smashing my finger between a 25 pound weight and the rack.
7. Waking up the next morning to find out that I can't bend said finger and that it is twice it's normal size.
8. Doing SOMETHING UNKNOWN to my right knee that causes it to hurt beneath my knee cap every time I straighten it.
9. Going to bed thinking the pain will be gone in the morning only to find out that it WAS NOT.
10. Answering the question "what did you do to your finger?" 10 MILLION times today because I see 500 students a day.

I SERIOUSLY NEED A BUBBLE.

Day 65

Today has been a pretty great day!  I got up really tired but by the time I got rolling in 1st hour I was feeling pretty good.

I ran and picked up some apples, yogurt and lunch meat at lunch and I'm normally not an apple (alone) person, but my brother, and then a student, turned me on to Honey Crisp Apples.  OH MAN they are good!  Normally I get a dry, waxy aftertaste with apples.  These are sweet enough that I don't get that!  This is a pretty exciting food development for me!

On another food note...  THE WEATHER HAS BEEN GORGEOUS HERE!  Hubs and I decided to grill tonight and MAN did we grill!  We did steaks with veggie skewers (mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, green bell peppers) steamed broccoli, grilled corn on the cob, and loaded potatoes au gratin.  HOLY COW it was amazing!  AND HEALTHY!

We hit the Y tonight after dinner and I did my weight circuit plus I added a couple more ab exercises onto my circuit!  At one point I was grabbing a weight off the rack and pinched my knuckle between the weight and the rack.  Tore some skin and swelled up a bit but it's all good now.  A little tender mayhaps, but still...  We played some racquetball and I got hit in the face with the ball.  Knocked my glasses into my nose and onto the floor.  We were really concerned they would be broken but it ended up ok!  It was a rough night for me!  LOL!  I'm telling ya, getting healthy really WILL kill me.

Tonsil Stones

WARNING!  THIS POST WILL BE GROSS!  PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

Ok, so I've been dealing with a sensitive issue for the past couple of weeks and it's time I come out with it...  I have developed Tonsil Stones.  Never heard of them?  There's a reason!  Up until pretty recently not even many doctors knew what they were.  From what I've read and understand of them, they are a build up of bacteria in the crypts (small tunnel like cavities) in your tonsils.  Never knew you had them?  Grab a flashlight and check it out.

Back in the beginning of February I started feeling like I had something stuck in my throat.  I pushed it away but about a week later I was really feeling it when I was brushing my teeth.  I turned on the flashlight on my phone and opened up wide and to my GREAT surprise, this is what I found.

Now, that's not me, but that is what I saw!  Only slightly larger.  I've had issues with my throat and tonsils since I was a kid.  I initially thought it might be a puss pocket and I had some sort of throat infection.  I immediately grabbed a q-tip and dipped it in hydrogen peroxide and began poking at the yellow spot.  After a few minutes I loosened it up a bit and something that looked like this came out!

I kept from throwing up OR freaking out (at this point I was convinced I had throat cancer!) and put that light back in my mouth and found more of these little buggers in my tonsil.  After about 10 minutes of cleaning them out, and getting almost 10 of theses things out, I was satisfied I had them all.  I IMMEDIATELY googled holes in my tonsils and came up with a wealth of information on Tonsil Stones.  Apparently these little guys SMELL AWFUL when you crush them (a pleasure I have not experienced) and can be a cause of bad breath.

After reading on them for about an hour and discovering that they are essentially harmless I was grossed out but satisfied I was done with that problem.  UNTIL A WEEK AGO.  I felt that feeling of something being stuck in my throat.  I opened up, turned on the light and sure enough...

So all week I've been checking and cleaning twice a day and pulling stuff out almost every time.  I've changed my toothpaste, started gargling, changing what I was eating in the morning but nothing is working.  I can't help but think these guys developing has been a result of the change in my diet since the beginning of the year.  WHO KNEW GETTING HEALTHY WOULD CAUSE ME SO MANY PROBLEMS!

Unfortunately the only real solution to these guys I've found is to have your tonsils removed.  Probably a good idea for me anyway, considering my history, but from what I'm reading it's hard to find a doctor who will do the surgery on someone my age unless the tonsils are super infected.  It's apparently a RISKY surgery the older you get.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!  These things are driving me crazy and poking around on my tonsils so much is irritating them and making them bleed.  I know it could be worse, it could be something fatal, but MAN is it annoying.  Anyone out there have tonsil stones?  Have YOU found a way to get rid of them?
